Ch. Karnchang (Lao) has successfully completed the first phase of the Xayaburi Hydro Power Project and has deviated the Mekong river in order to start with the second phase of the project, the Powerhouse and Left Bank Facilities.
Hydropower projects are a prerequisite for this region to develop alternative energy projects such as photovoltaic energy and wind energy as those Hydropower plants can be quickly run up to cover the gaps if the sun is not shining or the wind not blowing.
