Al-Graia’at Bridge and Approaches across Tigris River in Baghdad, Iraq

Dorsch Gruppe has been awarded the Detailed Engineering Design and Bidding Document of Al-Graia’at Bridge and Its Approaches across Tigris River in Iraqi Capital, Baghdad.

Following the signing of the contract on September 22nd, 2013, a successful press conference has been held in Baghdad revealing the details of the new engineering design contract for Al-Graia’at 2 kilometre suspension bridge. The iconic design promises the architecture of a new modern landmark in Baghdad reflecting on the wealth of civilization and solidifying a futuristic vision of modern Iraq flowing over the river Tigris. As outlined by H.E. Iraqi Minister of Reconstruction and Housing Mr. Mohammad Al-Darraji and Dorsch Gruppe CEO, Mr. Olaf Hoffmann, the new project symbolizes an extension to previous successful collaborations based on trust and authenticity.

Assuring world class execution in timely manner; Al-Garia’at suspension bridge is a novel addition to Dorsch Gruppe’s reputable portfolio of renowned projects.

Moreover, it enables clients to considerably lower development costs and saves time on planning, design and construction.

With an anticipated design period of 6 months followed by a provisional execution duration of twenty-four months; the awarded design inspired by Arabian elements, sees a mixture of creativity and reliability; a coined element of the new roads system connecting Al-Graia’at area in Al-Rusafa district in the East to Al-Kadhimiya area in Al-Karkh district in the West. The proximity of the proposed design to public garages - distributing traffic movements to different garages in Baghdad - guarantees a reduction in traffic congestion through providing a passing over river Tigris.

The charm of the suspension bridge proposed design lies in the orchestrated use of space. Utilizing the bridge’s pylon, the design introduces a recreational centre located in isle at the base of the bridge to complement the spectacular structure. The building comprising of shops, cafés & restaurants, cinema, a museum and gallery with panoramic views of the isle and the city promising visitors a unique experience enabling them to access a world-class structure with intricate details.
